We are a small but very sociable winter swimming club with many men coming to enjoy the BBQ, beer and camaraderie after the swim. Our season starts the Sunday of the weekend after Easter and goes through to mid September. Swimming starts at 9am every Sunday morning down at Woonona pool with the BBQ back at Woonona surf club around 10am.
Woonona is a suburb 10 km north of Wollongong on the NSW south coast in Australia. The Wollongong area has a number of winter swimming clubs which meet together on a Sunday in July for the South Coast Winter Swimming Championships.
Woonona Ockies were formed in 1986 as an off-shoot of the Bulli Sea Lions club. Initially there were only a handful of members and by the early 90s there were about a dozen regulars. This has grown over recent years and now have around thirty members and twenty regular swimmers including Life members.
In 2011 we celebrated 25 years as a club and were also the host club for the South Coast Winter Swimming Championships.
